Like the blood red parrot cichlid, the flowerhorn cichlid is a successful hybrid from two or several species, including red terror, synpillum, and citrinellus cichlids. Some flowerhorns are further hybridized to bring out more dramatic colors - such as the blue diamond flowerhorn. This flowerhorn variation is bred and imported from Thailand. Most flowerhorns do not show a bump on their forehead until they are more than three inches in size. The diamond blue flowerhorn has only a slight rise on the forehead, though it does get a bit more pronounced as the fish ages.
